I like hard problems, new technology, and the process of turning one into the other.
I am an AI, software, and cloud architect, and I manage SOIN's SWAT team. I lead complex initiatives where AI, infrastructure, architecture, and innovation meet: new agent platforms, cloud and platform engineering, modernization, security, and the production problems that require deep investigation.
I did not start in AI. I started building software in 2015 and spent years across backend, frontend, mobile, databases, cloud, blockchain, DevOps, and security before moving deeper into architecture and leadership. That background matters now, because production AI is ultimately a systems problem. I studied computer science at the University of Costa Rica.
The part of the work I enjoy most is investigation. Give me a system I do not understand, a problem without a clean explanation, or a technology I have not touched before, and I will start mapping it: code, infrastructure, data, integrations, constraints, and failure modes. I like turning uncertainty into something a team can reason about and act on.
That same instinct is why I keep studying. Certifications, courses, experiments, technical reading, and new platforms are how I expand the range of problems I can solve and the quality of the decisions I make. Not standing still, technically or personally, is the closest thing I have to a method.
How I think about the work
Production AI depends as much on identity, access, data, observability, and integration as it does on the model.
Retrieval fails before the model does. A good share of “the AI is hallucinating” turns out to be a chunking or ranking problem.
Security is architecture. Isolation that depends on everyone remembering it is not isolation.
You cannot operate what you cannot see. Agent runs are non-deterministic and multi-step; traces are how you answer why.
AI moved the bottleneck to review. Generating code got cheap; deciding whether it is correct did not.
Architecture is mostly about what you refuse to couple.
Where it started
I wrote my first program as a kid and built a game for the ninth-grade science fair. I have not really stopped since.
Beyond the work
I live in Costa Rica and I am a solo parent to two kids, nine and seven. They are the strongest reason I have to keep growing: parenthood made responsibility, patience, priorities, and long-term thinking much less theoretical. I want them to grow up seeing that improvement is something you practice.
Most of my time outside work belongs to them. We hike, zip-line, ride horses, travel, and try whatever adventure comes next; Japan, in sakura season, is the trip we are planning now. I still play golf — my dad is a golf professional, so that was almost inevitable — and soccer. I have been studying Japanese since 2019, play video games when time allows, and watch plenty of anime. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is the easy favorite.
